IPL 2020: 971 players register for the upcoming auction

IPL 2020 has already started grabbing headlines due to the recently-concluded trade window. The window witnessed many prominent names being shown the exit door by their respective franchises. Although, few released players are also expected to be snapped up again by their franchises on the auction day of IPL 2020. Most teams are expected to spend a hefty sum from their available purse at the upcoming auction, scheduled to take place on December 19 in Kolkata.

Ahead of the much-awaited auction of the IPL 2020, 971 players have registered their names to be a part of the tournament. Amongst the 971 registered players, 713 are Indians and 258 are overseas players. In the contest to fill up the 73 spots, there are 215 capped players, 754 uncapped players and two players from Associate Nations.

Amongst the Indian players who have registered for the cash-rich league, 19 are capped players while 634 are uncapped. There are 60 uncapped Indian players too who have played at least one IPL match. The overseas lot, who has garnered much attention since the tournament’s inception, comprises 196 capped internationals and 60 uncapped ones.

All the IPL franchises will have to submit their shortlist of players that will make up the Player Auction list until 5:00 PM IST, 9th December. Australia have the highest number of players (55) who are slated for the IPL 2020 auction, followed by South Africa (54) and Sri Lanka(39). West Indies (34), England (22) and New Zealand (24) also have substantial number of players to have registered for the tournament.

Kings XI Punjab have the most amount of money left in their purse ahead of IPL 2020 auction

Following the breakthrough of Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman, 19 Afghanistan players have also registered themselves for the upcoming IPL. The IPL franchises will be eager to splurge a considerable amount of cash from their available purse. The auction will witness a familiar face yet again as Hugh Edmeades is going to be the auctioneer.

Amongst all the franchises, Kings XI Punjab have the most amount of money left in their purse (42.70 Cr INR), followed by Kolkata Knight Riders (35.65 Cr INR) and Rajasthan Royals (28.90 Cr INR). However, Royal Challengers Bangalore are anticipated to be one of the busiest franchises at the auction as they have 12 available slots to fill up.
