IPL 2020 Auction: Round 3 & 4 – Sold and Unsold players

The world’s young and uncapped talent was on show in the third round of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 auction. A total of 30 players were up for grabs during the three sets and as many as 12 players were sold. The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) made their first picks in this round as they went for Priyam Garg, India’s U19 World Cup captain, and Virat Singh.

Both of them were picked for Rs 1.9 crore, much more than their base price of Rs 20 lakh. The Orange Army wasn’t interested for the rest of the third round as they preferred to sit back and enjoy the auction like they had done so far for the event. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) were the next who were active as they too snapped up Rahul Tripathi, Varun Chakravarthy and M Siddharth.

The Rajasthan Royals (RR) were once again interested in going for India’s talented players and they managed to secure the services of Kartik Tyagi, Akash Singh, Yashaswi Jaiswal and Anuj Rawat.

Shimron Hetmyer shines in round 4 while Hazlewood becomes a surprise pick

The round four consisted of overseas capped batsmen, fast bowlers and all-rounders and the West Indies batsman Shimron Hetmyer was the star here. In the fourth round, he was the first one to go under the hammer and to the cricketer’s dismay, there were no bids at the start. Just when the auctioneer was set to deem him unsold, the Royals raised a bid for him which began an intense bidding war.

Delhi Capitals and the KKR also went for the Caribbean star. But when the bids went high, the Royals opted out only for the Capitals to buy him for a whopping price of Rs 7.75 crore. A scintillating century for Hetmyer against India in the ongoing ODI series worked wonders for the youngster.

Another surprising buy of the evening was Josh Hazlewood who last played any T20 match in March 2016. CSK bought him for his base price of Rs 2 crore when they were left with only Rs 2.35 crore. Mitchell Marsh’ services were secured by the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) who have been looking to just plug the holes in their existing squad.

Meanwhile, Kings XI got a bargain buy in James Neesham for just Rs 50 lakh which was his base price. The New Zealand all-rounder has been doing well of late and is a decent buy for the franchise. David Miller will finally play for the team other than KXIP as he was snapped up by the Royals for his base price even as Mumbai Indians went for Saurabh Tiwary.
