The entire world was celebrating a new year with the same zeal and vigor as always. 2020 was one highly awaited year. Exactly this month a year ago, who would have been able to believe that a deadly, invisible pathogen will appear and wreck the entire world in the most unimaginable ways? To our astonishment, it did arrive and so arrived a new world order. There is nothing left untouched; nothing spared by the ravages of the novel coronavirus. It has indeed changed our lives in myriad ways.

We all have grown in and shifted towards a “new normal” in these catastrophic times. Grappling with the most unseen issues, coming to terms with the most unbelievable changes. Between social distancing and bio-secure bubbles, between updates of vaccines to cries of testing every day, nothing has stayed the way it was. And of course, the world of sports has not been left untouched.

Much to our respite, it has resumed and has resumed in grand style, although certainly not in the way it used to be. One speculation that haunted all the cricket fanatics thoroughly until September this year was the cancellation of the mighty Indian Premier League (IPL). In what was the most soothing and comforting news, it was confirmed by the IPL governing council in tandem with the BCCI that IPL will be organized in the UAE instead of India.

After innumerable challenges and setbacks, the league finally kicked off on September 19, 2020, and has been up and running without any hiccup thus far. Our beloved tournament did come back, however, it came back in a completely different avatar. With the matches being held behind closed doors to no cheerleaders, there have been a host of such uneasy and heart-wrenching forced changes in the dynamics of the IPL this time around.

#MyIPLReel is the most trending hashtag

Despite all the lows and unwanted obstructions, the crazy lovers of the game have not lost heart and have found different ways to shower love and support to the game of cricket and their favorite IPL franchises. The challenges and changes have been cornered, and the fanatics have taken the route of social media platforms to send their wishes virtually.

The majority of the fans have chosen Instagram reels to celebrate the fandom, and everyone’s timelines are abuzz with the same. The most common and trendiest tag has been #MyIPLReel. Apart from that, many followers have begun trending the hashtags such as #MyMIReel, #MyCSKReel, #MyKKRReel, #MyRCBReel, #MySRHReel, #MyKXIPReel, #MyDCReel and #MyRRReel too.

The new combination of social media, frenzy, and support has proved to be an instant dose of serotonin for all of us. Be it dancing on theme songs, using makeup and tattoos, or doing tiny acts or mimicry to display their support, the fans have brought out the creative and fun side really well.
