IPL 2020: CSK players including MS Dhoni, Kedar Jadhav face nasty comments following their defeat against KKR

MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings, failing to pull off a run-chase yet again, succumbed to Kolkata Knight Riders’ bowling unit at Abu Dhabi in Match 21 of IPL 2020. CSK’s topsy-turvy IPL 2020 campaign continued as they lost the encounter by 10 runs.

The Chennai side, especially Kedar Jadhav, was trolled after their defeat. While chasing a total of 168, CSK were on 99/2 in 12.1 overs. They needed someone to accelerate the run-flow but skipper Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav failed to do the job. While Dhoni was dismissed for 11 off 12, Jadhav remained unbeaten on 7 off 12 deliveries.

Both the experienced campaigners failed to gather boundaries, resulting in fans bashing CSK’s team management on social media. Fans questioned the management’s move to send Jadhav, who has only 58 runs in the last 6 IPL matches, ahead of Dwayne Bravo and Ravindra Jadeja.

“At the time, we thought that Kedar could play the spinner well and dominate. We hoped Jadeja (and Bravo) were there to come and finish if needed. But in the end, there was too much work to do and we fell short. If we could have got one of those players to 75-plus and continued that partnership for another maybe four or five overs, the game might have been a lot different,” CSK head coach Stephen Fleming had explained.

Criticism about a player’s on-field performance is not a new thing in cricket. However, with the rise of social media, it often leads to players receiving threats and toxic comments on the internet. Rajasthan Royals’ skipper Steve Smith also had to face the toxicity for his poor show with the bat in recent games.

But talking about CSK players, along with the abuse, their family members were also dragged and personally attacked on social media. Several tweets and comments surfaced on Twitter and Instagram, showing the abuse and threats vented on players’ family members.

Moreover, Dhoni’s five-year-old daughter was also given rape threats. Many derogatory comments were spotted on Instagram profiles of Dhoni and his wife Sakshi. The threats have resulted in a massive outrage on social media as such behaviour from fans has left everyone stunned.

Nasty comments, abuses and threatening comments against players’ family members have stirred up the entire cricket fraternity. A dismal on-field performance doesn’t give the right to any individual to abuse the player’s young child or wife.
