IPL 2020: Here's how MS Dhoni's CSK can still qualify for playoffs

Chennai Super Kings have been struggling too hard to find the rhythm in this season of the Indian Premier League. Even if they win one match in between, they find it difficult to continue on that path, and things turned worse for them. So far, they have managed to win only three out of their total nine games played. In their most recent match in IPL, they saw a defeat against Delhi Capitals by five wickets in Sharjah.

It was due to Faf du Plessis ( 58 off 47) and Ambati Rayudu’s (45 off 25) brilliance, the team posted a respectable total of 179 on the board. However, in return, Delhi Capitals chased the score effortlessly as Shikhar Dhawan stunned everyone with his magnificent century. His 101* off 58 finished DC’s chase in style with the support of Axar Patel’s quickfire 21* off 5.

After the latest contest, CSK are languishing at the sixth position in the points table. However, here is a small dose of happiness for CSK fans, and here is how it can turn true. They can still qualify for playoffs if they can spark a turnaround from their next clash against Rajasthan Royals on the coming Monday.

Here is how things can turn in favour of CSK

CSK have till now won only three matches, and if they steal victory in their next five clashes, they will make 10 points. And with 16 points in total, they can definitely think of sealing a place in the playoffs. Having said that, their chance of landing into the top four will depend on the performance of other franchises also. CSK will have to bag these 16 points anyhow, and even if they lose one out of their coming five contests, chances will remain likely in their favour.

If they have 14 points in total, the net run rate can come into play. Net run rate has always been playing a great role for the team to land them into playoffs. At the end of the day, if teams have equal points, the one with better NRR goes up for playoffs. Hence, apart from winning, CSK need to focus on each and every contest and must try to take away respectable victories.
