On Saturday, October 23, Ishan Kishan, the left-handed batsman, had a chance to open the batting for the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Rohit Sharma, the regular MI skipper, didn’t play the match and that gave Kishan the opportunity to walk out alongside Quinton de Kock. And in the very first instance, he showed his class.

In the first half of the tournament, Ishan got a chance when Saurabh Tiwary got injured. But then he sparked, scoring 99 runs, though the knock couldn’t take MI over the finishing line against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. But at the Sharjah Cricket Ground, his knock didn’t go in vain as the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) had no clue about stopping him.

He scored 68 runs off 37 balls and helped Mumbai win their seventh match by 10 wickets. He was severe on the bowlers right from the word go even as his partner de Kock played a cautious knock. Kishan’s knock was laced with six fours and five sixes and he played at an impressive strike-rate of 183.78. In eight games thus far, the southpaw has 261 runs at an average of 43.50.

In the meantime, Aditi Hundia, Ishan’s rumoured girlfriend, was mightily pleased with the cricketer. She was awestruck after one of Kishan’s sixes went on to the road outside the stadium. She captioned the picture and wrote, “Fiyaaahhh’

As far as the match goes, almost everything went right for MI after they won the toss and elected to field first. Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult’s opening bursts reduced CSK to 24 for five in the first six overs. In the middle-overs, leg-spinner Rahul Chahar turned the screws on the hapless CSK batters.

Sam Curran was the only shining light for the Super Kings as he scored 52 runs off 47 balls while batting at number seven. In the end, the Yellow Army could only muster 114 for nine in their 20 overs. The chase was a drab affair as MI eased past the target with as many as 46 balls to spare.
