After the season-opener between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians, the IPL 2020 dished out another thrilling encounter for fans. The second match of the tournament, where Delhi Capitals and Kings XI Punjab battled it out in the middle, was nothing short of a roller-coaster ride.

After being put to bat first, DC suffered major setbacks after losing three early wickets in the form of Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw and Shimron Hetmyer. Skipper Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant stitched a 73-run partnership to save DC’s sinking ship. In the end, it was Marcus Stonis’ fireworks which helped DC to amass 157 runs on the scoreboard.

In reply, Kings XI Punjab failed to weave a match-winning stand in the middle. They kept losing wickets at regular intervals but Mayank Agarwal’s match-defining 89-run knock turned the match in KXIP’s favour. However, it was all square in the end with both teams gathering 157 runs on the board.

The match eventually went into a Super Over where Kagiso Rabada flaunted his class and curbed KXIP to a meagre 3-run total. DC achieved the total with four deliveries to spare, opening their IPL 2020 campaign on a positive note.

New Zealand’s Jimmy Neesham, a part of KXIP dugout, couldn’t believe the team lost in a super over and he posted a funny reaction on Twitter. The Kiwi all-rounder was also on the losing side in the 2019 World Cup final which saw New Zealand missing out on the trophy in a dramatic way. The BlackCaps haven’t been lucky, especially in Super Overs. They had also lost two back-to-back T20I matches against India in the tie-breaker earlier in 2020.

After losing against DC by the narrowest of margins, Punjab will play their second match on September 24 against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Itching to lift their maiden IPL trophy, KL Rahul’s men will be aiming to script their first win of this year’s IPL.
