Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) co-owner Ness Wadia has urged the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for better use of technology after the defeat against Delhi Capitals (DC). His words came after on-field umpire Nitin Menon erred in signalling Chris Jordan a ‘short-run’ in the 18th over of KXIP’s run-chase. TV replays showed that Jordan’s bat was inside the crease when he completed the first run.

The match eventually went into the Super Over after the Punjab-based franchise failed to score one run in their last three balls. In the one-over eliminator, they bore the brunt of Kagiso Rabada. Wadia reckoned that Sunday’s match in Dubai had two massive umpiring goof-ups that cost KXIP the game. He also called for “fairness and transparency” in a tournament like the Indian Premier League (IPL).

KXIP were the subject of poor decision-making by the umpire, says Wadia

“Yesterday’s game had two umpiring mistakes which cost KXIP the game. The first came in the first few overs of the match, where a leg bye went for a four and it was given as leg bye by the umpire, but it was actually a wide ball. That one run would have helped Kings XI win the game versus losing,” Wadia was quoted as saying in TOI.

“The second disastrous decision came at the end of the game in the last couple of overs, when a run was deemed as not being a run even though TV replays showed that it had been a run. Unfortunately, these two decisions cost Kings XI the game,” he stated.

“I would request BCCI to ensure better umpiring and maximum use of the technology so as to ensure fairness and transparency in the IPL, which is amongst the best leagues in the world. I feel it is unfortunate that Kings XI were the subject of poor decision-making by the umpire, which cost us the game,” he added.

On Sunday, Mayank Agarwal’s 60-ball 89 couldn’t guide KXIP over the line. Their next match is against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Thursday, September 24 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. KXIP will have to out their best foot forward as RCB are coming off a 10-run victory against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
