Kings XI Punjab pulled off a sensational 12-run victory against the Sunrisers Hyderabad to keep their playoff chances alive. KXIP got 47 runs in the powerplay but managed to finish on 126/7 as they failed to hit enough boundaries in the second half. David Warner’s quick 20-ball 35 put Sunrisers at 56/0 after 6.1 overs in the chase. The dismissal of Warner slowly turned the game into Punjab’s hands as the required run rate went over seven. Sunrisers got bowled out for 114 as they lost Holder and Rashid on successive balls in the 19th over and three wickets in the final over.
Here are all the statistical highlights from Kings XI Punjab’s thrilling win during KXIP vs SRH:
Sunrisers crumble in a low chase:
126/7 – Kings XI Punjab’s total of 126/7 in KXIP vs SRH is the 2nd lowest total they defended successfully in the IPL. The lowest total KXIP won defending in the IPL is 119/8 against Mumbai Indians in 2009 which they won by three runs.
127 – The target of 127 is the lowest that Sunrisers Hyderabad failed to chase in the history of IPL. The previous lowest target which SRH failed to chase in IPL was 137 against Mumbai Indians last year where they lost by 40 runs.
End of Warner’s streaks:
1/8 – The KXIP vs SRH game is the first instance of Sunrisers Hyderabad losing to Kings XI Punjab in the IPL under David Warner‘s captaincy. Before Saturday’s fixture, Warner led SRH in seven IPL games against KXIP and scored fifties in winning cause in all those seven matches.
9 – The 35 runs scored by David Warner on Saturday brought an end to his 9-match streak of fifties against Kings XI Punjab in the IPL. The last instance of Warner failing to score a fifty in an IPL game against KXIP was way back in 2014.
SRH’s record collapse:
8 – Runs aggregated by Sunrisers Hyderabad’s bottom-six batters (No.6 to No.11) during KXIP vs SRH; the joint 2nd fewest runs scored by any team’s bottom six in an IPL game. Delhi Capitals’ No.6-11 batters scored as few as six during the last season’s match against KXIP while Sunrisers’ bottom-six also aggregated exactly 8 runs in the last year’s home match against DC.
Sandeep @ 100 wickets:
101 – Sandeep Sharma completed 100 wickets in the IPL with the wicket of Mandeep Singh during KXIP vs SRH. Sandeep thus became only the 6th pacer from India to bag 100 wickets in the IPL.
The first catch for Khaleel:
17 – The catch to dismiss Chris Jordan was the first-ever in the IPL for Khaleel Ahmed which came in his 17th appearance in the league. The record for the most number of matches played in the IPL without taking a catch or affecting a stumping is 16 by Hashim Amla.
A slow knock from Manish:
51.72 – Manish Pandey’s strike rate of 51.72 during his 29-ball 15 is the joint 2nd lowest strike rate in an IPL inning of 15+ runs. Dinesh Karthik had a strike rate of 48.57 when he made 17 off 35 balls for Delhi Daredevils in the 2010 edition. Manish also scored a 29-ball 15 against SRH in the 2013 edition for Pune Warriors India.
