After their 10-wicket defeat to Mumbai Indians last week, the Chennai Super Kings were nearly out of the playoff race. From there on, they began to play more freely and in this process, they are making the things tough for the sides in the race to finish in top four. Earlier on Sunday, it was Royal Challengers Bangalore who got the taste of CSK’s all-round performance. On Thursday, it was a special knock from Ravindra Jadeja which got the Super Kings over the line against Kolkata Knight Riders in the last ball thriller.
Jadeja has been brilliant with the bat in this IPL and the all-rounder provided the same during CSK vs KKR. The Chennai team needed 20 runs from just 8 balls from where Jadeja hit 22 runs including a six on the final ball when scores were tied. Ravindra Jadeja finished unbeaten on 31 off 11 balls which got an impact of +15.14 as per the CricTracker’s Match Impact Ratings. Jadeja’s match impact reads +21.08 which is by far the highest for any player in the game thanks to his 1/20 with the ball in three overs.
The contributions of Ruturaj Gaikwad (72 off 53) and Ambati Rayudu (38 off 20) were quite crucial for Chennai during the CSK vs KKR as the duo added 68 runs in only 37 balls to bring down the required rate under nine similar to what they did against RCB. Gaikwad got an impact rating of +7.14 while Rayudu got +9.38 for his aggressive knock. Earlier, it was Nitish Rana’s highest IPL score was about 50% contribution to Kolkata Knight Riders’ final total. The opener ended up earning an impact of +8.80 for his marathon knock.
Lockie Ferguson, who entered the season with a match-winning performance against SRH, cost the game for Kolkata on Thursday. Just when things seemed to be in KKR’s hold, the New Zealand pacer bowled a waist height full toss from where the match turned on its head. Ferguson’s bowling effort fetched him a negative impact of -6.28, the worst among the bowlers during CSK vs KKR. The only player with a lower match impact than Lockie was Shane Watson (-9.35) as the Australian got only 14 runs from 19 balls.
