MS Dhoni did not do anything notable on the field on Sunday when Chennai Super Kings locked horns against Kings XI Punjab in their final game of IPL 2020. The wicketkeeper-batsman didn’t get the chance to bat and took one regulation catch behind the stumps. But that didn’t stop him from becoming one of the top trends on social media.

The reason behind the same was his ‘definitely not’ comment at the toss. Before the start of the match, the CSK skipper confirmed that he was definitely not going to retire from IPL and would don the famous yellow jersey again when the next IPL takes place. MS Dhoni would be eyeing redemption in the next season which is barely ‘five months away’.

The reason behind MS Dhoni handing out jersey?

Before MS Dhoni confirmed that he is not retiring, there were rumours doing the rounds that the ongoing season might be his last. The former India skipper had announced his retirement from international cricket in August and there were murmurs that he might bring down curtains on his IPL career too.

MS Dhoni handing out jerseys to the players of the opposition teams after games further fuelled those rumours. Players from different teams collected a signed MS Dhoni jersey from him almost after every game in the second half of the Indian Premier League. It made many believe that the ongoing tournament was Dhoni’s last.

However, the veteran cricketer cleared the air after the match against KXIP. Dhoni revealed that the players asked for his jersey because they were thinking he might retire from IPL too after retiring from international cricket before the start of the tournament.

“Maybe they thought I am retiring, you know. I retired from international cricket, so they might be thinking I am retiring from IPL as well,” Dhoni said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

Talking about the game, CSK thrashed KXIP by nine wickets to end their campaign in IPL 2020 with a win. Asked to bat first, KXIP scored 153 for 6 with Deepak Hooda’s 30-ball 62* runs knock being the best effort. In reply, CSK chased down the total with seven balls remaining. Ruturaj Gaikwad led the charge with the bat and scored an unbeaten 62.
