IPL 2020: Prithvi Shaw edges the ball; no one appeals from CSK

The eighth encounter of the IPL 2020 witnessed the clash between the oldest and the youngest skipper of the tournament– MS Dhoni and Shreyas Iyer. Having won their first encounter against KXIP in an enthralling super over, the Delhi franchise were put to bat first by MS Dhoni. CSK, on the other hand, had lost their previous game against RR while succumbing to Sanju Samson’s batting brilliance.

Both the expected openers of the Delhi side– Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan— opening the innings while CSK started off with Deepak Chahar. On the first delivery of the match, Shaw slapped it to the cover but without any power.

On the following delivery, Shaw again looked for a boundary as he tried to pull off a flashy cover drive. To the youngster’s disappointment, the ball sneaked between the bat and the pad and went through to wicketkeeper Dhoni.

The snickometer revealed that it apparently was an edge but no member from the CSK bunch was able to identify it. It was later revealed that the ball had taken a thin edge before going to the wicketkeeper’s gloves.

It was a vital lifeline for Shaw as he slammed two consecutive boundaries on the next two deliveries and Chahar ultimately conceded 9 runs in the first over. After CSK’s negligence to spot the edge, the Shaw-Dhawan pair steered Capitals to a steady start and amassed 36 runs in the first six overs during the Powerplay.

Shreyas Iyer’s men will be hoping to clinch another victory in their IPL 2020 and pave their way up to the top of the points table. The Delhi team’s previous IPL 2020 clash against Kings XI Punjab was a roller-coaster ride for them.

After amassing a 157-run total on the board, DC curbed KXIP’s run-flow by scalping wickets at regular intervals. However, it was Mayank Agarwal’s match-defining 89-run knock which added a twist in the tale. The match eventually went into a super over where DC’s Kagiso Rabada flaunted his lethal pace and restricted KXIP to just 2 runs. It ultimately turned out to be a cakewalk for DC as they hunted down the target with 4 deliveries to spare.
