It was a forgettable day at the office for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Wednesday. They could only muster 84 runs in their 20 overs against some brilliant bowling from Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and bagged some embarrassing records to their name. Soon after the loss though former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir was at the receiving end of all the trolls on social media.

The reason for the same was his comment on Star Sports ahead of the match. Gambhir had said that there is no rivalry between KKR and RCB as the Kolkata franchise has won two titles while the Virat Kohli-led side is yet to lay its hands on the trophy. In a way he had backed the Eoin Morgan-led side to defeat RCB and strengthen their place in the playoffs.

But as soon as the action began, KKR were left reeling within the powerplay at 14/4. Their batsmen had played some poor shots while Mohammed Siraj spit venom with the new ball. Despite Eoin Morgan trying his best scoring 30 runs, KKR could only post 84 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their 20 overs. It was also the lowest total in the history of IPL for any team after batting for 20 overs.

RCB chase down comfortably

The total wasn’t a challenging one for RCB at all and KKR bowlers didn’t show any intent to defend it either. Aaron Finch and Devdutt Padikkal added 46 runs for the opening wicket after which Virat Kohli and Gurkeerat Singh Mann got the team over the line in the 14th over itself. This big win propelled RCB to the second position in the points table while KKR are now left with doing a lot of work in their last four matches of the season.

However, the way KKR played, Gautam Gambhir’s own words came to bite him and was soon trending on social media. He was hilariously trolled for his pre-match comments and it was meme fest on Twitter.
