Sam Billings returned to his first franchise this year. During his initial stint with the Capitals, he scored a fifty each year. Later on, he was released by the Delhi-based franchise and was picked by the Chennai Super Kings. During the 2018 auction, he was bought for his base price of 1 crore.

In his first game, he won the game for Chennai as he scored 56 off 23 balls. It was a priceless inning as it was a tense situation. As he scored a match-winning half-century, he was given regular chances, but he failed to convert the starts into big scores. And eventually, he was dropped.

Sam was retained for the 2019 edition by CSK. But, he was released ahead of the 2021 auction. Now, he is a part of the Delhi Capitals which comprises various match winners. With Steve Smith, Shimron Hetmyer, Kagiso Rabada, Marcus Stoinis, and many more international stars in the squad, it is difficult for Sam to make it to the playing eleven.
