Arjun Tendulkar, the son of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, made his T20 debut for the Mumbai senior team in the ongoing edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy. He made his U19 debut for India back in 2018 and had to wait two years to get into India’s domestic circuit. The 21-year-old all-rounder, in the meantime, kept playing club cricket on English soil.

As far as his debut was concerned, he played against Haryana in Mumbai’s third league game of the SMAT20 at the Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai. He bowled in the powerplay and got the wicket of Chaitanya Bishnoi, who scored only four runs. However, he turned out to be the most expensive of the Mumbai bowlers as he leaked 34 runs in the three overs he bowled.

Mumbai went on to lose the game by eight wickets after Haryana chased down 144 with 14 balls to spare. Mumbai have had a horrendous campaign in the league. Out of three matches, they have lost all and are placed at the bottom with a net run rate of -2.482. Having become ineligible for a berth in the quarter-finals, Mumbai are left with games against Puducherry and Andhra.

Arjun Tendulkar to play in the IPL?

In the meantime, Arjun Tendulkar has become eligible to feature in the auction pool for the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League. Making his debut for Mumbai means that he has every chance of going under the hammer for the cash-rich league. But keeping in mind the quality of all-rounders India have, Arjun will have to work out of his skin for making his IPL debut.

The 2020 edition of the IPL ended on November 10 and there’s not much time left for the upcoming edition. Hence, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has already pulled its socks up to finalise the dates and venues for the tournament.

The last IPL took place in the UAE and whether or not the IPL returns to India is yet to be seen. For the time being it remains to be seen if Arjun gets a chance in Mumbai’s last two matches in the championship.
