Chennai Super Kings will be desperate to bounce back in IPL 2021 after a disastrous campaign in IPL 2020. Nothing much went right for the Chennai-based outfit as they missed out on the playoffs for the first time in the history of IPL. In the testing conditions of UAE, MS Dhoni & Co. could not hit the top gears and eventually finished at the seventh spot.

CSK could win only 6 of their 14 games. At one stage, it looked like they would finish at the bottom after managing just 3 wins from their first 11 games. However, the Chennai-based outfit won their last three games to avoid a last-place finish and bowed out of the competition on a good note. With the tournament now back in India, they will be desperate to make amends.

CSK will be also bolstered by the return of Suresh Raina and the addition of some new players. Raina as well as Harbhajan Singh had pulled out of IPL 2020 due to personal reasons. Raina was later retained by the franchise while Harbhajan was released.

Chennai Super Kings’ schedule for IPL 2021:

The BCCI, on Sunday, announced the schedule for the much-anticipated season of the tournament. IPL 2021 will kickstart on April 9 with a mouth-watering clash between defending champions Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore in Chennai. On the very expected notes, only a limited number of venues – Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata – will be hosting the entire competition.

Each team will play in four of the six centers in the group stage. The 56 league stage matches have been split into 10 games each in Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Bengaluru, while Delhi and Ahmedabad will host eight. The afternoon games will begin at 3:30 PM IST, while the evening matches at 7:30 PM IST. There will be a total of 11 doubleheaders, with six teams playing three afternoon matches each and two teams playing two.

As far as CSK are concerned, they will open their campaign against last year’s runners-up Delhi Capitals on 10 April in Mumbai. The MS Dhoni-led side will play their first five games in Mumbai before heading to Delhi for their next four league games. Their next three games will take place in Bangalore before two games in Kolkata will bring an end to their league campaign on May 23. CSK and RCB will play the last league game of IPL 2021 on May 23 before the playoffs take place in Ahmedabad.
