Delhi Capitals will be looking to build on the success of their campaign in last year’s Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The Delhi-based outfit was one of the most consistent teams in IPL 2020 and finished the competition as runners-up. They made it to the final for the first time in the history of IPL before losing to Mumbai Indians.

Only Mumbai had managed to register more wins than them in the league stage. While the eventual champions had won 9 league games, Delhi had won 8 of their 14 games. The Shreyas Iyer-led side will be a strong contender for the title once again in IPL 2021. With the likes of Iyer, Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, Rishabh Pant, Kagiso Rabada and other big stars in their ranks, Delhi Capitals will be a force to reckon with in the fourteenth edition of the competition.

Ahead of the season, Delhi Capitals have unveiled their new jersey. The national capital-based franchise released the new jersey on Friday (March 19). Barring a few red stripes, the new jersey is not very different than the one the team wore in IPL 2020.

The new jersey has red tiger claws on the sides that ‘makes the overall appeal extremely dynamic’. According to the franchise, ‘The new Delhi Capitals jersey will continue to be dominated by blue (representing stability and confidence), and red (symbolising energy, passion & aggression).

Before the auction, they had released Keemo Paul, Sandeep Lamichhane, Jason Roy, Alex Carey, Mohit Sharma, and Tushar Deshpande. In the auction, they bought a total of eight players.

Former Rajasthan Royals captain Steve Smith was their first buy before they bought Umesh Yadav, Ripal Patel, Vishnu Vinod, Lukman Meriwala, M Siddharth, Tom Curran and Sam Billings. IPL 2021 will get underway on April 9 with a clash between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Delhi Capitals, on the other hand, will open their campaign on April 10 against Chennai Super Kings.
