The Indian Premier League is all set to kick off in the UAE for the third time in the history of the T20 league. The IPL happened in the Gulf nation for the very first time back in 2014 when general elections were set to be held in India and the first 20 matches took place there. However, due to COVID-19 concerns, the entire 2020 edition of IPL took place in the UAE.
In the latest turn of events, the remainder of the IPL 2021 is also all set to kick off in the UAE in September-October. The remaining matches will take place across three venues as the initial part of the league got suspended in India due to the emergence of COVID-19 cases across the camps. It also has to be noted that BCCI has laid down fresh protocols for franchise members and families traveling to the UAE in light of the pandemic.
The new protocols state that disciplinary actions might be taken against family and franchise members if the breach in bio-bubble is reported at any point in time. “Breach of any Bio-Secure Environment protocols by franchise members or their families will be subject to disciplinary action by the BCCI,” said BCCI official as quoted by Times Now.
CSK and MI to play the first match of IPL 2021 in the UAE
The IPL 2021 kicked off in India amid the second wave of COVID-19 that shook the country. BCCI were sure of pulling off the event successfully in India but the breach in their water-tight bio-bubble resulted in all the hassle and ultimately the tournament had to be postponed. The tournament will kick off from that point where it was left in India with DC leading the points table followed by Chennai Super Kings.
The first match of the IPL 2021 in the UAE will be the jackpot of the event as Mumbai Indians will come forward to lock horns with MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings. The contest between the two most successful franchises of the IPL has always kept fans on the edge of their seats for these years.
