Since the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League, MS Dhoni wasn’t having a great time with the bat in hand. His reflexes came down and he was unable to step on the gas in the dying stages of innings. But on Sunday, the 40-year-old turned back the clock and gave a glimpse of his stupendous self with the bat in hand. The veteran showed that he’s yet to completely run out of gas.

Dhoni faced only six balls in Chennai Super Kings’ Qualifier 1 against Delhi Capitals on Sunday, October 10 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. But they were enough for him to make a serious impact in the game. He came to bat when CSK needed 24 runs off the last 11 balls while chasing 173. He started by playing a dot ball as Avesh Khan beat him outside the off-stump.

But then, he smashed the pacer for a six over deep mid-wicket after which there was no stopping him. In the final over, CSK lost Moeen Ali’s wicket and the Yellow Army were left with 13 runs to get off five balls. However, instead of letting the situation ruffle him, Dhoni held his nerve and took the Super Kings home with two balls to spare. He laid into England pacer Tom Curran.

Dhoni smashed three fours off Curran, who also bowled a wide. In the meantime, some fans in a cinema hall went berserk after Dhoni smacked the winning runs. In a video doing the rounds on social media, the fans were seen cheering for the Jharkhand-born cricketer.

After CSK’s four-wicket win, Dhoni admitted that chasing the steep target against the potent DC attack wasn’t going to be an easy task. “My innings was a crucial one. Delhi has a very good bowling attack. They exploited the conditions well, so we knew it would be tough.

“I’ve not done a lot in the tournament, so wanted to look for the ball and see what the bowler can do. I was batting well in the nets. But wasn’t thinking too much, if you think too much while batting then you mess your plans up,” Dhoni said after the game.
