IPL 2021: Jofra Archer likely to miss entire season; set to undergo surgery on his right hand

England’s right-arm seamer Jofra Archer isn’t having the best of times as the cricketer has sustained multiple injuries and is expected to miss the action for the coming one or two months for the same reason. Jofra has been suffering from an elbow injury for quite some time now.

The seamer played with a painful right elbow in the first and third Test match of the four-match Test series against India followed by his participation in the five-match T20I series against the same opponent. His injury aggravated during the T20 Internationals and he was sidelined from the three-match ODI series for the same reason.

Archer has returned back to England from India and is expected to take the third injection for his elbow in the month of April. Meanwhile, it is learned that the 25-year-old will also undergo surgery on Monday, March 29 for another injury he had sustained while cleaning his home before he boarded the flight to India for the long tour. This might also keep him away from an entire IPL season.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed that Jofra Archer had suffered a cut on his right hand and will need to undergo surgery to regain fitness. Two major injuries can also mean that Archer can miss the whole 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) scheduled from April 9 to May 31.

When asked about the same, England’s limited-overs skipper Eoin Morgan had said that only time will tell if Archer would be available for the elite tournament. “To be honest, I cannot give a medical opinion. We know the situation with his elbow, it has progressively gotten worse. We know that it needs investigation, only time will tell. He has given his heart and soul to us since he has been involved so we will give him full attention in order to try and bring the best result possible,” said Morgan during a virtual press conference on Monday.

“It all depends on the outcome of the investigation that the medical team will do (Archer’s return to India for IPL). They will determine the best rehabilitation program coming back and we will go from there. We fully trust our medical team, they have outstanding regarding player welfare and player rehabilitation. The trust is always there,” he added.
