The much-awaited 14th edition of the Indian Premier League got kicked off with a high-profile match between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore. With IPL marching ahead, the second match of the T20 extravaganza will see the light of the day between Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings. While DC were in top form in IPL 2020 as they booked the berth for finals, CSK struggled big time and finished 7th on the table.
The yellow brigade of CSK is back in full form and vigour and will be looking up to set a great tone for the season. Fans would also be expecting their captain cool, MSD, to bring up some fiery game this season which was missed immensely last time. With fair shopping done in the 2021 auction, let’s take a look at how CSK will go up wit their playing combination in 1st match-
Predicted Playing XI of CSK- Match 2
Openers- Robin Uthappa and Faf du Plessis
CSK brought in Uthappa from RR in an in-cash deal after the 2021 IPL auction. The right-handed batsman had a dismal run in the last edition where he could manage only 196 runs in 12 matches, averaging 16.33. However, keeping his experience in the line, the yellow army would be expecting him to give them a good start this season.
Du Plessis was in sublime form for his team last year in the T20 league. Even though CSK struggled on various occasions, he kept his class rolling as he amassed 449 runs in 13 matches, averaging over 40. The team would expect him to replicate the same heroics this time and his case looks too strong to get going in CSK’s playing XI against DC.
Middle Order- (Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu, and MS Dhoni- c & wk)
CSK’s very own Raina is back again with them this year. One of the favourite batsmen of the yellow brigade, Raina, was missed big time in IPL 2020 as he pulled out due to personal reasons. However, he has always delivered the best for his franchise and has amassed 5368 runs in IPL so far. Fans will look forward to a classic show from his end this time too.
Rayudu had some hot and cold outings in IPL 2020 but the season remained average for him in terms of runs scored. His batting form would be very needed by his team to brush off their middle-order woes. Talking about the skipper, MS Dhoni, fans literally waited in every match to see his usual class but that only remained a dream. Though his guidance remains extremely valuable for CSK, fans will again be hoping for some helicopter shots from his end.
All-rounders (Dwayne Bravo, Ravindra Jadeja, Moeen Ali, and Sam Curran)
The presence of Bravo and Jadeja has always been vital for the yellow franchise. Though the Caribbean star didn’t get much time to bat in the last season, he picked up 6 wickets in 6 matches he played. The two-times winner of the Purple Cap will definitely be expected to do wonders for the team.
The franchise will await the presence of their star all-rounder Jadeja with all their heart as he was out of the field for some time due to an injury. The class batter, bowler, and fielder rose to the occasion in crunch situations for his team last season and will be expected to flaunt the same this time.
Moeen Ali has been roped by CSK this time at a hefty price tag. In that case, the team will definitely expect him to pitch in with his contribution in both departments of the game. Talking of Curran, the Englishman was called as the pick of the season for CSK in IPL 2020. He fought single-handedly for the team in various games and owned all the positions he was sent to bat at. Picking 13 wickets in 14 games also makes his case decent for bowling.
Bowlers ( Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar)
The best thing about the CSK lineup is that all the players from top to end are capable enough to bat and spend time at the crease. Thakur has been an excellent bowling all-rounder for India in the recent while and a lot will be expected from him for his franchise too.
Deepak Chahar remained to be the first choice bowler of CSK with the new ball and he delivered too. However, the season ended on an average note as he finished with 12 wickets in 14 matches while conceding at 7.61. Talking around his abilities in the short format of the game, he will be expected to deliver the best for the yellow team. CSK will expect Chahar, along with Thakur, and Curran to take up the pace attack of the team in all the style.
