RCB is experiencing a dream run in the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as they registered their third consecutive win in the tournament. The Men in Gold and Red put up a comprehensive show at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai as they won against Kolkata Knight Riders by 38 runs.

Entering the contest, KKR made no changes while RCB made the unconventional choice of playing with just three overseas options as they replaced Dan Christian with an Indian batsman in the form of Rajat Patidar. The toss went in the favor of Virat Kohli and he decided to put the total on the board.

Batting first, the Bangalore outfit got off to a torrid start as they lost their first two wickets including the likes of Kohli and Rajat in the second over only by Varun Chakravarthy. However, the two wickets didn’t hamper RCB’s plans as the Australian power-hitter Glenn Maxwell launched an assault on the opposition bowlers. Maxwell stitched a crucial partnership of 86 runs with Devdutt Padikkal.

The dismissal of Padikkal in the 12th over by Prasidh Krishna resulted in some insane power-hitting. Two modern-day legends, AB de Villiers and Maxwell took the Knight Riders bowlers to the cleaners. It rained boundaries and maximums at the MA Chidambaram Stadium as Glenn played a match-defining knock of 78 runs off 49 deliveries while AB added 76 runs to the scoreboard in just 34 deliveries.

The exploits by AB and Glenn propelled the Men in Red and Gold to a mammoth total of 204 runs in their 20 overs. For KKR, Varun emerged as the pick of the bowler as he scalped two wickets while Pat Cummins and Prasidh Krishna had one each under their best.

RCB bowlers execute disciplined bowling in the death overs

Chasing 205, the Knight Riders got off to an explosive start as they collected 23 runs in just 1.4 overs. However, Kyle Jamieson gave the much-needed breakthrough to RCB by picking the wicket of Shubman Gill, who was playing at 21 off 9. After this, though KKR lost wickets at regular intervals, all the batters played some quickfire knocks to keep them alive in the chase.

Towards the end, RCB were ahead but Andre Russell smashed Yuzvendra Chahal for 20 runs in the 17th over to lit up the gloomy KKR dug-out. What followed after that was a disciplined bowling effort by the RCB pacers as they restricted Russell from scoring runs and helped the Bangalore outfit win the game by 38 runs.
