The IPL matches played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai aren’t for the faint-hearted and the clash between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals (DC) was a testament to the same. In a game where the momentum swung back and forth, Delhi Capitals registered a win by six wickets in the very last over even while chasing a paltry total of 138 runs.

Entering the contest, Mumbai included Jayant Yadav to the Playing XI in place of Adam Milne while the Capitals also added two new faces to the team in the form of Amit Mishra and Shimron Hetmyer. Batting first, MI got off to a blistering start as they collected 55 runs in the first powerplay while losing just one wicket of Quinton de Kock.

However, in the 9th over, Rishabh Pant introduced Amit Mishra into the attack and that totally changed the flow of the game. Mishra took two crucial wickets of opposition skipper Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya. After this, there was a horrible collapse of MI’s batting line-up as they had no answers to the questions posed by the DC bowlers.

The Capitals were successful in restricting the defending champions to a modest total of 137 runs in 20 overs. Amit Mishra stole all the thunder with his bowling as he picked as many as four wickets while Avesh Khan also had two under his belt.

Dhawan’s calm batting takes DC over the line

138 was too low a target for the MI bowlers to defend against a celebrated DC’s line-up but they tried by taking timely wickets. After Prithvi Shaw lost his wicket in the second over, Steve Smith and Shikhar Dhawan executed sensible batting as they stitched a crucial partnership of 53 runs.

Though DC’s innings stumbled a bit towards the end, they managed to somehow cross the line. There were some hopes left for MI as Delhi needed 15 off the last 12 deliveries but a couple of no-balls in the penultimate over by Jasprit Bumrah totally made Delhi the favorites. With his knock of 45 runs, Shikhar emerged as the highest run-getter as Delhi chased the target with five balls to spare.
