Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) were involved in a high-scoring thriller in the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Both teams managed to cross the 200-run mark, but in the end, the MS Dhoni-led Super Kings won the game by 18 runs.

After electing to field first, the Knights were on the receiving end of some brutal power-hitting as CSK scored 220 runs in 20 overs. In the run-chase, KKR were in all sorts of trouble after being reduced to 31 for five in 5.2 overs.

But Andre Russell’s 22-ball 54 followed by an unbeaten 34-ball 66 from Pat Cummins kept the Men in Gold and Purple in the hunt. Dinesh Karthik also notched 40 runs off 24 balls, but their efforts went in vain. In the meantime, CSK managed to win their third game in a row and moved to the top of the points table.

Here are the CSK Player Ratings for the KKR vs CSK match:

Ruturaj Gaikwad- 9/10

Ruturaj Gaikwad got back to form as he notched his maiden half-century off the tournament. He went on to score 64 runs off 42 balls with six fours and four sixes. It was Varun Chakravarthy, who accounted for his wicket.

Faf du Plessis- 9.5/10

Faf du Plessis was top of his game, though he agonisingly fell short of a century. In the end, the veteran batsman stayed unbeaten on 95 runs off 60 balls with the help of nine fours and four sixes.

Moeen Ali- 6.5/10

Moeen Ali played a useful cameo of 25 runs off 12 balls with two fours and as many sixes. He got out to Sunil Narine in the 17th over while trying to up the ante. He didn’t get a chance to bowl his off-breaks.

MS Dhoni- 7/10

MS Dhoni rolled back to the clock to his heydays as he pulled out the long handle with good effect. In eight balls, the 39-year-old scored 17 runs off eight balls with the help of two fours and one six.

Ravindra Jadeja- 8/10

Ravindra Jadeja hit a six in the only ball he faced. With his left-arm spin, he didn’t get a wicket. However, he gave only 33 runs in his four overs and managed to keep the batters in check for quite a while.

Suresh Raina- N/A

Ambati Rayudu- N/A

Sam Curran- 4/10

Sam Curran went for 30 runs in his penultimate over and conceded 58 runs off his four overs. But he removed the dangerous Russell, who was batting on 54 runs off 22 balls with three fours and six sixes.

Shardul Thakur- 2/10

Shardul Thakur was taken to the cleaners as he leaked 48 runs in 3.1 overs at a disastrous economy rate of 15.15. But in the last over, he took CSK home after he ran out Prasidh Krishna at the non-striker’s end.

Deepak Chahar- 9.5/10

Deepak Chahar was stupendous as he picked up four wickets in the powerplay and broke the backbone of the KKR batting order. In four overs, he gave away only 29 runs at an economy rate of 7.25.

Lungi Ngidi- 9.5/10

Lungi Ngidi played his first game in the ongoing edition and made an impact on an immediate basis. He bowled 15 dots and picked up three wickets, conceding a mere 28 runs in his spell of four overs.
