Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) loses their first match in the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as Chennai Super Kings continue their winning streak in the tournament. The table-toppers were involved in a thrilling encounter at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The Super Kings managed to outplay the opposition in all three facets of the game by 69 runs courtesy of Ravindra Jadeja.

Entering the innings, both the team made two changes in their winning line-up. CSK replaced an un-fit Moeen Ali and Lungi Ngidi with Imran Tahir and Dwayne Bravo respectively. RCB, on the other hand, provided some depth to their bowling line-up as Navdeep Saini and Daniel Christian were included in the side in place of Shahbaz Ahmed and Kane Richardson.

Batting first, CSK got off to an explosive start as the opening duo of Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad stitched a crucial partnership of 74 runs. The wicket of Gaikwad slowed down the innings of CSK as Du Plessis also marched back to the pavilion after scoring a half-century. Faf was followed by Suresh Raina and Ambati Rayudu as they could score only 24 and 14 runs respectively.

Ravindra Jadeja takes CSK home

CSK was heading towards a low total but the last over by Harshal Patel completely changed the momentum of the game. Jadeja initiated a carnage in the last over as he smashed as many as 37 runs. The spin all-rounder hit fix maximums and one boundary to propel CSK towards a total of 191 runs in 20 overs. Jadeja remained not-out with 62 runs off 28 balls.

Chasing 192, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) started on a blistering note as the opening batters Devdutt Padikkal and Virat Kohli amassed 44 runs in the first three overs. However, after the three overs, the Bangalore outfit suffered an annihilation as all the batsmen quickly lost their wickets and RCB found themselves reeling at 89 for seven in 12 overs.

It was again Jadeja who snatched the momentum from RCB as he scalped three important wickets of Washington Sundar, Glenn Maxwell, and AB de Villiers along with a run-out of Dan Christian. Meanwhile, RCB somehow managed to play all the 20 overs as the last two batsmen Yuzvendra Chahal and Mohammad Siraj scored 8 off 21 and 12 off 14 respectively.
