Delhi Capitals (DC), the runners-up of the 2020 edition, made an incredible start to the 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL). The Rishabh Pant-led unit beat Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by seven wickets at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai to kick off their campaign on a grand note.

After the Capitals opted to field first, CSK lost the early wickets of opening batsmen Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis. On the back of veteran Suresh Raina’s 54 along with 20s and 30s from their middle-order batsmen, the Super Kings mustered 188 for seven in their 20 overs.

In the run-chase, the Capitals came out firing on all cylinders and didn’t allow MS Dhoni and his men to get a foothold back in the game at any stage. DC made a mockery of a daunting target and chased it down with eight balls to spare.

Here are the DC Player Ratings for the CSK vs DC match:

Prithvi Shaw- 9.5/10

Prithvi Shaw played some delightful shots and took on the CSK bowling right from the word go. He smashed 72 off 38 balls at a strike rate of 189.47. His knock was laced with nine fours and three sixes. It was Dwayne Bravo, who ended his stay in the middle.

Shikhar Dhawan- 9.5/10

Shikhar Dhawan was on top of his game and made sure that when he got out, the required rate was down to nearly a run-a-ball. The southpaw scored 85 off 54 balls with 10 fours and two sixes. Shardul Thakur trapped him in front to dismiss him.

Rishabh Pant- 7/10

Rishabh Pant didn’t show any signs of nervousness in his maiden appearance as the skipper of the Capitals. Apart from his impressive leadership qualities, the southpaw stayed unbeaten on 15 off 12 balls with two fours.

Ajinkya Rahane- N/A

Shimron Hetmyer- N/A

Marcus Stoinis- 4/10

Marcus Stoinis didn’t have the most auspicious day with the ball in hand. In two overs, he leaked 26 runs and bowled a waist-high full toss, which was called a no-ball. But when he came to bat, Stoinis hit three fours and got out on 14.

Chris Woakes- 9/10

Chris Woakes bowled brilliantly for the Capitals. Though he didn’t complete his quota of four overs, he made sure that he gave away 18 runs at an economy rate of six. The pacer also picked the wickets of Gaikwad and Sam Curran.

Tom Curran- 5.5/10

Tom Curran was on the receiving end of some lusty blows from his younger brother Sam Curran. In four overs, the speedster went for 40 runs. But he got the prized wicket of Ambati Rayudu, who got a 16-ball 23.

Ravi Ashwin- 5/10

Ravi Ashwin turned out to be expensive as he leaked 47 runs in his four overs. He got the wicket of Moeen Ali, who went for a reverse-swat but couldn’t keep a check on the run-scoring. He was hit for four fours and as many sixes.

Amit Mishra- 5.5/10

Amit Mishra bowled reasonably as he gave away 27 runs off his three overs. He bowled only four dot balls and was hit for a couple of sixes. The tweaker will be looking to get amongst the wickets next time around.

Avesh Khan- 9.5/10

On a batting paradise, Avesh Khan was DC’s standout bowler on the day. In four overs, he gave away a mere 23 runs at an economy rate of 5.75. Along with 11 dots, he also picked up the wickets of Faf du Plessis and Dhoni, who both couldn’t open their account.
