Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) again topped the IPL points table. The two most-talked-about teams, RCB and Delhi Capitals were up against each other at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium to fight for the number one position. It was a batters show as AB de Villiers and Shimron Hetmyer entertained the fans with some stunning power-hitting. However, in the end, the Bangalore outfit won the thriller by just one run.

Entering the contest, Bangalore made two changes to their playing XI as they included Daniel Sams and Rajat Patidar while DC also made a forced change by replacing Ravi Ashwin with Ishant Sharma. The toss went in the favor of Rishabh Pant and he invited Virat Kohli & Men to bat first. 

Batting first, RCB had a torrid start as they lost both their opening batters, Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal within 4.1 overs at a mere score of 30. The same was followed by Glenn Maxwell and Rajat Patidar looking decent in the middle and stitching a partnership of 30 runs. However, Amit Mishra bowled a perfect delivery to dismiss Maxwell and RCB were left hanging at 60 for three.

However, in the second half of the first innings, it was an AB show as the hard-hitter slammed 75 runs in just 42 balls to propel the team towards a total of 171 for 5 in 20 overs. For DC, Ishant Sharma, Kagiso Rabada, Avesh Khan, Amit Mishra, and Axar Patel took one wicket each.

Chasing 172, DC also got off to a disappointing start as RCB scalped wickets of Shikhar Dhawan, Steve Smith, and Prithvi Shaw within 7.2 overs. DC was way behind in the game but towards the end, Shimron Hetmyer and Rishabh Pant got into a partnership to take the game deep. While Rishabh anchored the innings, Hetmyer went all guns blazing against the RCB’s bowling line-up.

Pant’s 58* off 48 and Hetmyer’s spectacular innings of 53* runs off 25 balls gave some hope to the Capitals of winning the game. But Harshal Patel and Mohammed Siraj nailed the yorkers in the death overs to help the Bangalore side win the match by one run.
