Punjab Kings completely blew away Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) as they produced a comprehensive show in all three facets of the game be it batting, bowling, or fielding. With the win against the Bangalore outing by 34 runs, Punjab scripted their third victory in the ongoing 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). While skipper KL Rahul produced a captain’s knock, it was the spinner, Harpreet Brar that stole all the limelight with his jaw-dropping performance with the ball.

Entering the contest, RCB made just one change as they replaced Washington Sundar with Shahbaz Ahmed. Punjab Kings, on the other hand, made as many as three changes as they included Riley Meredith, Harpreet Brar, and Prabhsimran Singh. Batting first, Punjab got off to a torrid start as Prabhsimran lost his wicket in the fourth over while playing at seven.

The wicket came as a blessing in disguise for Punjab as Chris Gayle came in the middle with a different mood. Right from the first ball, the explosive hard-hitter took the RCB bowlers to the cleaners. Gayle played a crucial role for PBKS as he played an attractive knock of 46 runs off 24 deliveries.

However, Gayle’s wicket in the 11th over initiated a collapse of Punjab’s batting line-up as they lost four wickets and were reeling at a score of 118 for five. The skipper KL Rahul, who was playing an anchor role, suddenly changed his gears in the death overs and hammered the ball like anything. He played a sensational knock of 91 runs off 57 balls including seven boundaries and five maximums.

Harpreet Brar causes carnage on the field

Rahul’s exploits with the willow derived the Punjab-based franchise to an above-par total of 179 runs in their 20 overs. Chasing 180, RCB was never in the chase as Punjab bowlers looked in a good rhythm and hardly gave time to the opposition’s batters to settle. Skipper Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar tried to stitch a partnership in the middle but a spectacular 11th over by Harpreet completely took the momentum away from the challengers.

On the very first ball of the 11th over, Brar took the wicket of Kohli and on the second ball, he managed to send Glenn Maxwell back to the pavilion on a golden duck. The spinner again returned in the 13th over to diminish all the hopes for the Bangalore outfit as he took the prized wicket of AB de Villiers. After this, there was nothing left for RCB in the chase and Punjab registered a comfortable victory by 34 runs.
