After a tantalizing halt of 140 days, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 is back. Chennai Super Kings met arch-rivals Mumbai Indians in the first match of the UAE leg and the contest saw several momentum shifts. While both teams put up a commendable effort, CSK eventually walked back with a 20-run triumph.

Earlier in the game, CSK won the toss and elected to bat at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The decision didn’t seem fruitful by any means at first as the three-time champions suffered a top-order collapse. While big guns like Faf du Plessis and Moeen Ali bagged ducks, Ambati Rayudu got retired hurt on the second ball. Veterans MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina also couldn’t do much.

As a result, the Men in Yellow got reduced to 24/4. While MI looked firmly in command, Ruturaj Gaikwad didn’t put his guard down and brought his side back in the hunt. He added 81 runs with Ravindra Jadeja before joining forces with Dwayne Bravo. The duo played some big shots in the death overs as CSK posted 156/6.

Chasing the tricky total, MI’s chase never went smooth. Deepak Chahar made the new ball talk and dismissed both openers cheaply. In fact, MI were let down by their entire batting order. Saurabh Tiwary did try to keep his side in the hunt and even scored a fifty. However, his efforts never seemed to help the five-time champions.

As a result, MI were restricted to 136/6, losing the game by 20 runs. While this win took CSK to the top of the team standings, the Mumbai-based side remained fourth in the team standings.

Meanwhile, here are the important stats and numbers from the CSK vs MI clash in IPL 2021:

12 – First time in 12 matches, MI lost a game while chasing the target.

150 – Trent Boult completed 150 wickets in T20 cricket.

3/25 – Dwayne Bravo’s 3/25 are his best IPL bowling figures since 2013 IPL final.
