Delhi Capitals have got back their top spot in the IPL 2021 points table after beating the Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets on Wednesday in Dubai. The team, led by Rishabh Pant, garnered their seventh win and now has a healthy net run rate of 0.613. The Sunrisers, on the other hand, kept gasping for breath as they are placed right at the bottom of the table with points from eight games.

Sunrisers huff and puff

After electing to bat first, SRH could never find any sort of momentum as they ended with 134 for nine in 20 overs. David Warner, their former skipper, couldn’t open his account as Anrich Nortje nipped him out in the first over. Wriddhiman Saha looked good for his 18 before Kagiso Rabada removed him. Kane Williamson scored 18 with one four, but played at a dismal strike rate of 69.23.

He tried to take on Axar Patel and holed out to Shimron Hetmyer at long off. Manish Pandey couldn’t get going either. SRH lost half their side after Nortje dismissed him. In the end, Abdul Samad and Rashid Khan scored 28 and 22 respectively to give SRH’s score some sort of respectability. Rabada was the pick of the DC bowlers with three wickets. Nortje and Axar got two wickets each.

DC put forth a clinical show

Prithvi Shaw tried to take the Capitals off to a flier and managed to hit two fours. However, Khaleel Ahmed sent him back after Williamson took a well-judged catch. From there on, DC became a tad circumspect. Shikhar Dhawan hit six fours and a six in his 37-ball 42. The southpaw got out to Rashid while trying to clear the long boundary at deep square leg. Samad took a sharp catch in the deep.

Shreyas Iyer didn’t show any signs of nervousness on his comeback to the team. He rotated the strike to good effect and kept the scoreboard ticking. He stayed unbeaten on 47 with the help of two fours and as many sixes. Skipper Pant came out firing on all cylinders, scoring 35 off 21 with three fours and two six. Courtesy of their 67-run stand, DC chased down the target with 13 balls to spare.
