Delhi Capitals’ winning streak in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021’s UAE leg finally came to end as Kolkata Knight Riders pipped them by three wickets. It was indeed a magnificent show from the two-time champions as a defeat in this contest would have put them behind the playoff race. Moreover, DC hadn’t put a foot wrong after the season resumption, registering a couple of comprehensive victories.

Nevertheless, KKR got the better of them at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. In what can be called a rare instance, the Delhi-based outfit suffered a batting collapse. Although Steve Smith, Shikhar Dhawan, and skipper Rishabh Pant made handy contributions, the middle and lower order let them down. Spin twins Sunil Narine and Varun Chakaravarthy were brilliant in particular as they never allowed DC batters to get going.

As a result, the Capitals were restricted to 127/9. Although the total wasn’t massive, KKR didn’t cross the line easily. They lost wickets at regular intervals, keeping DC in the hunt. However, handy knocks from Shubman Gill, Nitish Rana, and Narine took KKR over the line in 18.2 overs. While KKR jumped to fourth place with this win, DC remained at the second position.

Meanwhile, here are the important stats and numbers from the KKR vs DC clash in IPL 2021:

1 – For the first time, Steve Smith faced the first ball of an innings across all official formats. The Australian batter was standing in his 589th innings.

454 – Dhawan also became the new holder of the orange cap with 454 runs. He went past Sanju Samson’s current tally of 433 runs.

2390 – Rishabh Pant is now the highest run-scorer for the Delhi-based franchise with 2390 runs. He went past Virender Sehwag’s tally of 2382 runs.

7Rishabh Pant has gotten run-out for the seventh time in IPL, most by a Delhi Capitals batter.

50 – Avesh Khan completes 50 wickets in T20 cricket.

3 – Eoin Morgan recorded his third duck in last six IPL innings. In the other three, he got out twice in single digits.
