The match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings turned out to be a humdinger. The game went right down to the wire, but in the end, KL Rahul’s PBKS won by five wickets to register their fifth win in the tournament. The Kings now have 10 points from 12 matches. Meanwhile, despite the loss, the Knight Riders stayed at the fourth spot and their biggest positive is their net run rate.

Iyer shines for KKR yet again

After being put in to bat first, the Knight Riders did an excellent job as they racked up a competitive score of 165 for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs. After left-arm fast bowler Arshdeep Singh struck first blood, getting rid of Shubman Gill, Venkatesh Iyer and Rahul Tripathi held the innings together. The duo put together a handy partnership of 72 runs for the second wicket off 55 balls.

Ravi Bishnoi separated the duo after he pinned Tripathi, who scored a 26-ball 34 with three fours and one six. Iyer went on to notch his second fifty of the ongoing IPL. The left-hander scored 67 off 49 with nine fours and one six before he became Bishnoi’s second victim. Thereafter, the left-handed Nitish Rana notched a quick-fire 31 off 18 balls and lifted the Knights to a respectable score.

KL Rahul plays a blinder for PBKS

KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal took the Kings off to handsome start with a 70-run stand for the opening wicket off 93 balls. Agarwal got a lifeline early in the innings and he went on to score 40 off 27 with three fours and five sixes. Nicholas Pooran smashed a six before Varun Chakravarthy got rid of him. Aiden Markram perished for 18 after hitting Sunil Narine for a big six on the leg side.

In the meantime, Rahul racked up his fifth IPL half-century this season off 43 balls. In the penultimate over, he got a reprieve after the third umpire gave him not out. Prior to that, Shivam Mavi accounted for Deepak Hooda’s wicket. Rahul perished to Iyer after a 55-ball 67, leaving PBSK needing four off four. In the end, Shahrukh Khan hit a six to take Punjab home with three balls left.
