Two teams that have stood head and shoulders above the rest, two teams whose batting and bowling departments have fired in unison, and two teams that are occupying the top two positions in the points table will clash with each other in the 50th Match of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Delhi Capitals (DC) have both been outstanding in the tournament. Both Chennai and Delhi have accumulated the same number of points (18), and both have won the same number of matches (9 out of 12) as well.
When these two teams met each other in the first leg of the tournament, the Delhi Capitals chased down a challenging target of 189 set by the CSK side with aplomb, winning the match with 7 wickets to spare.
For the Chennai side, Ruturaj Gaikwad has been outstanding. The young opener is currently the second-highest run-scorer in the 2021 edition of the IPL and has amassed 508 runs in 12 innings at an average in excess of 50. His opening partner, Faf du Plessis is the 5th highest run-scorer in the 14th season and has amassed 460 runs at an average of 46.00.
Ravindra Jadeja has been brilliant with both bat and ball for CSK this year. The left-hander has pummeled 211 runs in the 2021 IPL season and has scored his runs at an average of 70.33, and a strike rate of 154.01. With the ball too, the left-arm spinner has scalped 8 wickets at an average of 31.13.
CSK’s four-match winning streak in the UAE was halted by a spirited Rajasthan Royals (RR) side, and the ‘Men in Pink’ absolutely hammered MS Dhoni and his men on 1st October 2021. CSK posted a total of 189/4 on the board, but Sanju Samson and his men made light work of the target, winning the match with 7 wickets to spare.
The Delhi Capitals too, have had plenty of reasons to smile about. Their opener Shikhar Dhawan is the 4th highest run-scorer in IPL 2021 and has amassed 462 runs in 12 innings, while Shreyas Iyer has found his form in the second leg, scoring 124 runs in 4 innings at an average of 62.00.
Rishabh Pant has been in good form as well and has scored 337 runs in the tournament this year, at an average of 37.44. Also, Delhi’s 24-year-old pacer Avesh Khan is the second-highest wicket-taker in IPL 2021 and has prized out 21 willow wielders, at a miserly average of just 15.00. Anrich Nortje too has sizzled with the ball in the UAE leg and has scalped 6 wickets in 4 matches at an average of 10.67.
This is a battle of the behemoths. This is a battle between two standout teams of the tournament. With the top place in the points table up for grabs, can Rishabh Pant’s fearless warriors outsmart MS Dhoni’s battle-hardened Super Kings?
