Finally, something to cherish for Sunrisers Hyderabad! After enduring a horrendous campaign this season, SRH defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by four runs in their penultimate league-stage game. Although it wasn’t really a comprehensive win, the 2016-season champions did well to defend 141 against a formidable batting line-up. This defeat also means RCB won’t finish among the top two.
Speaking of how the game unfolded, RCB invited SRH to bat after winning the toss at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. While the likes of Jason Roy and Kane Williamson got starts, none of the Hyderabad batters could play an innings of substance. Also, the scoring rate remained on the lower side. As a result, the Men in Orange were restricted to 141/7 in their allotted 20 overs.
Although the target wasn’t daunting, SRH bowlers kept RCB on their heels. Skipper Virat Kohli got out in the very first over while number-three Daniel Christian couldn’t do much either. A 54-run partnership between Devdutt Padikkal and Glenn Maxwell pulled things back for RCB. However, the duo got out in quick intervals and the chase got tricky again. Although AB de Villiers kept the hopes alive till the end, he couldn’t take RCB over the line.
Meanwhile, here are the important stats and numbers from the RCB vs SRH clash in IPL 2021:
