The match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals in Dubai turned out to be a humdinger. The game went right down to the last ball, and it was Virat Kohli and Co. who came out trumps by seven wickets. Avesh Khan had to defend 15 runs of the last over, but the fast bowler couldn’t. The Challengers will now be facing the in-form Kolkata Knight Riders in the Eliminator.

DC slow down after decent start

The Capitals got off to an impressive start after being put in to bat first. Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw made sure that DC notched 55 runs in the powerplay and didn’t lose a wicket. The duo went on to stitch together an 88-run stand for the opening wicket off 10.1 overs. But both batters got out in their 40s in a space of seven balls. Harshal Patel gave his team its first wicket, dismissing Dhawan.

Chahal got rid of Shaw, who made 48 at a strike-rate of 154.83. Rishabh Pant came at No.3, but Dan Christian removed him early. From there on, DC couldn’t quite inject momentum into their innings. Shreyas Iyer scored a run-a-ball 18 before Mohammed Siraj sent him back. Shimron Hetmyer scored 29 off 22 with two fours and sixes apiece as the Capitals got up to 164 for five in their 20 overs.

Bharat and Maxwell take RCB home

RCB didn’t have the best of starts as Anrich Nortje sent back both openers, Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal in quick succession. KS Bharat and AB de Villiers steadied the ship with a 49-run stand. De Villiers crawled to a run-a-ball 26 before he mistimed one off Axar Patel. Maxwell got two lifelines after the DC fielders dropped him. He stepped on the gas after the required rate was hovering around 12.

In the meantime, Bharat got to his fifty off 37 balls and he lent Maxwell the required support. In the three last three overs, RCB needed 31 runs with two set batters in the middle. He got to his fifty off 32 balls and got to 2000 IPL runs. But it was Bharat, who hit Avesh Khan for a six off the last ball to take RCB home. He stayed not out on 78 runs off 52 balls to script a superb win for his team.
