Bangladesh cricketers Mustafizur Rahman and Shakib Al Hasan have landed in their home country safely after traveling from India. The pair will now go into quarantine for 14 days, which a special rule put into place by Bangladesh Health Ministry for people traveling from India and South Africa. The two players will also be available for the ODI series against Sri Lanka.

On Thursday, May 6, Rahman took to Twitter to announce that he had landed home in Bangladesh with his senior teammate. The fast-bowler played a crucial part during the Indian Premier League 2021 for the Rajasthan Royals, who were missing their star bowler, Jofra Archer. He ended the tournament with eight scalps in seven matches at an average of 28.00 and an economy of 8.29.

On the other hand, Shakib Al Hasan featured for Kolkata Knight Riders in three matches, scoring 38 runs with the bat and picked up two wickets. Rahman in his tweet thanked both KKR and RR for their support which helped the two of them reach Bangladesh. He uploaded a picture with Shakib on Twitter. Rahman also thanked the health ministry for their contribution.

The pair to join the Bangladesh ODI squad for the series against Sri Lanka

“Alhamdulillah, we have safely back in Bangladesh without any trouble. I would like to thank @rajasthanroyals and @KKRiders franchises for making it happen. I would also like to thank our health ministry for it’s contribution,” wrote Mustafizur on Twitter upon landing safely in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh.

The two players will be joining the national team after their quarantine period is done. Bangladesh is hosting Sri Lanka for a three-match ODI series, which will be played entirely at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had planned to initially seek a reduced quarantine period for the two players.

However, that was done when the IPL was supposed to go on as planned. However, with the league been suspended indefinitely, the two players will have time to serve their entire quarantine period before joining the squad two or three days prior to the first ODI. The pair will be returning to the Bangladesh setup, after missing the recent Test series in Sri Lanka.
