Andre Russell was going hammer and tongs after the Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) bowling attack. The West Indian behemoth had pulverized the MS Dhoni-led side, and the momentum was slowly shifting back to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) outfit.
But then, Sam Curran’s inswinger ended Russell’s short and destructive stay out in the middle. Off the 2nd ball of the 12th over, Curran bowled from over the wicket and angled the ball onto Russell’s leg stump. The KKR batsman thought that the ball might miss the leg stump and shouldered arms to it.
But then, the ball swung in, and Russell’s leg stump was knocked out. He was dumbfounded and could not believe his luck, and departed for a breathtaking 54 off 22 deliveries.

Chennai Super Kings make it a hat trick of victories
The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) side won their third consecutive match in a row in the 14th edition of the IPL. Led by a whirlwind opening partnership of 115 between Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad, the MS Dhoni-led outfit amassed a gargantuan total of 220/3 on the board. Such was the assault by the Chennai batsmen that as many as 4 out of the 6 bowlers who rolled their arms over for the Kolkata side went at an economy rate of more than 10 runs an over.
In reply, Andre Russell and Pat Cummins instilled life into the Kolkata side. Even though the Eoin Morgan led side lost its first 5 wickets with just 31 runs on the board, Russell and Cummins destroyed the CSK bowling attack. While Russell scored a blazing half-century, Cummins scored 66* at an imposing strike rate of 194.12. And in the end, the Eoin Morgan-led outfit ended their innings with a total of 202 in their allotted 20 overs and fell 18 runs short of the CSK total. Deepak Chahar was the pick of the bowlers for the ‘Yellow Brigade’ and scalped 4 wickets in the 4 overs that he bowled.
While the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) outfit will next take on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will clash against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) outfit.
