IPL 2021: SRH keeper Shreevats Goswami donates INR 90,000 for oxygen supplies

With the sudden rise of the COVID-19 cases in India, there has been a panic in terms of getting the proper facilities. The second wave of the coronavirus has caused a lot of issues in India for the past week. Some of the cricketers have made donations in order to help the healthcare facilities in the country. Sunrisers Hyderabad and Bengal cricketer, Shreevats Goswami has also joined some of his fellow cricketers in this attempt to help the desperate situation. 

The wicketkeeper-batsman from Sunrisers made a handsome contribution of INR 90,000. His donation has been put forward to the provisions of oxygen supplies. He has contributed to a charitable organization called Donatekart. After the cricketer made his donation, the organization decided to put out a tweet praising him. 

They posted from their official Twitter profile and also tagged Sunrisers Hyderabad mentor VVS Laxman, captain David Warner, and fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar. They lauded the step taken by the 31-year-old to help during this hour of need. “Thanks a lot, @shreevats1 for your generous contribution of Rs 90,000 to provide oxygen supplies in this hour of need,” the tweet from Donatekart read.

Shreevats Goswami urges followers to contribute

The cricketer hasn’t played a single match in the 2021 season of the Indian Premier League for Sunrisers. Goswami urged his followers in a series of tweets to make a donation to an NGO or a charity. There are several such organizations that are coming up and taking donations to provide oxygen cylinders to the hospital across the country. 

The donation from the Bengal player comes after Australian pacer Pat Cummins made a sizable donation of $50,000. A day later, we witnessed Brett Lee, the former Aussie bowler, donating an amount close to INR 41 Lakhs to the same cause. These donations are coming after India experienced a sudden rise in COVID patients. In the last week, close to 3 or 3.5 lakh cases have been registered on a daily basis in India.

Coming back to Shreevats Goswami, the Bengal cricketer had first broken into the limelight when he was the wicketkeeper and opening batsman of the Indian U19 team under Virat Kohli, which won the World Cup in 2008. He faded from the limelight soon but continued to play for Bengal and some IPL teams over the years.
