COVID-19 has burst the bio-secure bubble in the Indian Premier League (IPL). After multiple positive cases in the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) camp, Delhi Capitals (DC) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have also been affected with the virus now. The SRH wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha and DC spinner Amit Mishra have tested positive for Coronavirus.

It was reported late on Monday that the game between SRH and Mumbai Indians (MI) would go ahead as planned. However with the latest positive case of Saha, the game is unlikely to take place now. Both SRH and MI had skipped the practice session on Monday after the report of DDCA groundstaff returning positive results.

Saha hasn’t played since appearing in the first two matches for the Orange Army but was part of the squad consistently. SRH last played against Rajasthan Royals in Delhi and the Sanju Samson-led side will mostly go in quarantine now.

DC already in quarantine

Meanwhile, Times of India has also reported Amit Mishra has tested positive for COVID-19 even as the Delhi Capitals were told to go into quarantine after cases in the KKR camp. Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier were the first to be tested positive for the virus and this is when many began to doubt the future of the IPL.

Soon, CSK bowling coach Lakshmipathy Balaji and their bus cleaner also contracted the virus and even they have gone into quarantine. With more cases in other teams also now, all the franchises are at risk now and it remains to be seen if the IPL will actually go ahead now.

DC were scheduled to play against KKR on May 8 while the match between CSK and RR was already postponed. KKR vs RCB game on Monday also didn’t happen after cases in the Eoin Morgan-led side. There were reports of foreign players being anxious about the situation as well and the future of IPL 2021 is certainly in dark as of now with the game between SRH and MI also unlikely to go ahead.
