Picking up Devdutt Padikkal raised a question mark as the Royals already had an opener in retained Yashasvi Jaiswal. Padikkal, who had previously excelled at the opening position for RCB, was given a different role at No. 3 and 4 for RR in the first few games. He was then pushed to open again alongside Buttler, but the Royals decided to bring back Jaiswal in the XI.

Padikkal again returned to his position and this time, he capitalised on the chance and played some excellent innings. He has stacked up 374 runs this season despite his batting positions being changed constantly. He has adapted to the new role in the RR franchise and is making a statement as well.

5. Backing Riyan Parag

Riyan Parag was yet again picked up by the Royals in the mega auction this year and the franchise backed him for the finisher role throughout the season. The right-hander has played some important cameos from time to time.

Parag has so far scored 168 runs in 13 innings and has often got very few deliveries to make an impact with the bat. The Royals understood his role and he has repaid the faith to an extent. More importantly, Parag has taken some outstanding catches so far and has been a safe fielder on the boundary line.
