Well, finally, the IPL 2022 has begun to unveil its course. The two new franchises who were supposed to sign their big stars have also revealed their purchases. In total, a colossal pool of 1214 players from across the globe has signed up for the mega 2022 auction.

However, for a few teams, the auction event is also vital for picking their new leaders. Because the likes of Shreyas Iyer, David Warner, and Eoin Morgan are still available, some franchises will move heaven and earth to fetch these heavyweights. Hence in this list, let’s check out-

5 teams that need captains from the mega auction

1. Royal Challengers Bangalore

For RCB, their captaincy options have become very bleak after the departure of Virat Kohli. After IPL 2013, it will be for the first time that Bangalore will employ a new face for its leadership. Initially, though the likes of ABD, Maxwell, or even Yuzi Chahal were expected to be at helm, none of them now seem to be the answers.

That’s why particularly both Shreyas Iyer and David Warner will be the prime prospects that RCB will look to sign. Both being proven captains can also smoothly begin a new chapter in the franchise’s history. Especially if Shreyas Iyer gets a hefty deal then he can become the second bigwig after King Kohli.

Overall, as the red-army also has to pick a sizable replacement of ABD, bagging Iyer seems to be a fitting solution. Hence it won’t be a surprise if RCB goes full throttle to sign a heavyweight figure for its reign.

2. Kolkata Knight Riders

Well, for KKR, their recent stint with captain Morgan was a bittersweet one. In IPL 2020, Morgan had failed to qualify KKR in the playoffs. Whereas in the second half of IPL 2021, the Englishman soared the franchise into the finals. However, his personal batting form in IPL 2021, raised many eyebrows regarding his selection.

Maybe that’s why the southpaw was also snubbed when it had come to his possible retention. Perhaps in IPL 2022, the purple army can now either look to buy back Morgan or cast an all-new face. So far with the young Shubman Gill also getting departed, Kolkata will look to seize a sturdy individual for a long haul.

To fit their needs, both Warner and Shreyas Iyer can be ideal entities to lead KKR. Even the young Ishan Kishan can be selected as the future face of the franchise. Overall, it also won’t be a surprise if veterans like Ashwin or Shikhar Dhawan might lead KKR, especially considering their past history of a rewarding experience.

3. Punjab Kings

For PBKS, it will once again be a new dawn in IPL 2022. Unfortunately, their former captain KL Rahul has now moved to a new home. Yet again before the mega auction, Punjab has retained the least number of players. Though Mayank Agarwal is the leading candidate to helm Punjab, the franchise will definitely look to explore much more.

Perhaps as Punjab also possesses the maximum cash amongst all IPL teams, they can look to sign a steadfast cricketer like David Warner. As a zestful individual, Warner can altogether rewrite the history books of the team. The southpaw who’s also known to bring out the best from the least resources at SRH can apply a similar approach with this team.

Overall even other heavyweights like Shreyas Iyer can bring new vitality to PBKS. As a young captain, an impressive team can be built around the 27-year old just like DC. Hopefully, this mega auction conclusively changes the fortunes of the Punjab team.

4. Chennai Super Kings

As an iconic team of the IPL, CSK is still led by the legendary services of MS Dhoni. From IPL 2021, captain cool is been expected to retire and the IPL 2022 could be his last appearance. However, to fill his humungous boots, Chennai might look to explore a captaincy material in the mega auction.

Perhaps currently, CSK has interesting players like Moeen Ali and Ravindra Jadeja to experiment with. But since it’s a mega auction, they can even bag some other credible candidates at the table. Though their adequate purse won’t allow them to offer whopping deals, picking players like Ishan Kishan can become an apt choice.

In fact, with their other veterans like Bravo and Du Plessis standing at the twilight of their careers, CSK will have to infuse some young guns in IPL 2022. Hence definitely in some way, the yellow army will be seen signing dynamic individuals.

5. Sunrisers Hyderabad

Sadly the results of IPL 2021 has brought inevitable changes in the SRH setup. Their former skipper David Warner might no longer play for Hyderabad from IPL 2022. Even in terms of their retentions, SRH has preserved two uncapped players.

However captaincy-wise, though Kane Williamson will be the chief, Hyderabad can additionally pouch a solid deputy for him. With a bulky purse of INR 68 Crore, the orange army can easily fetch the likes of Shreyas Iyer. Otherwise encompassing Williamson with some veteran names like Eoin Morgan or Shikhar Dhawan can be an interesting choice. Perhaps in such a scenario, the team can again even buy back, their best hero (David Warner).

Overall, SRH’s recruitment will get highly dependent on the team’s new management setup. Hopefully, for fans, they might even look to redeem their old masters like Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Sandeep Sharma.
