After a morale-boosting five-wicket win over an in-form Rajasthan Royals last weekend where they registered the first two points to their tally in the ongoing IPL 2022, the Mumbai Indians would be hoping to win a second straight game when they take on the table-toppers Gujarat Titans at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on May 6.

Ahead of the upcoming fixture, the five-time winners  received a huge setback as one of their frontline pacers Tymal Mills participation in the tournament has come to an abrupt end after an ankle injury ruled him out for the remainder of this season. While it has indeed put MI in a spot of bother, they have resorted to a backup option instantly by signing Tristan Stubbs as a replacement. Without further ado, let’s know who Tristan Stubbs is?

Who is MI’s new recruit Tristan Stubbs?

Tristan Stubbs is an emerging South African cricketer. While he is yet to attain fame and fortunes at the highest level for the Proteas, the 21-year-old does have some amount of experience under his belt having played a few first-class and List-A matches ever since his debut in 2020. In the eight, 11, and 17 FC, List-A, and T20s that he has played so far, Tristan has amassed 465, 275, and 506 runs respectively.

The youngster has been offered a sum of INR 20 lakhs for this season and he is expected to join the MI squad soon. In the recently-concluded CSA Challenge, the extremely talented middle-order batter had an excellent season where he went on to amass 293 runs averaging 48.83 and a strike rate of 183.12 representing the Warriors. Tristan Stubbs was also an integral member of South Africa A squad for the Zimbabwe tour.

The budding cricketer from the ‘Rainbow Nation’ would be hoping to make the most of his opportunities while trying his luck with the former champions as they look forward to grooming the younger talents. It would also be interesting to see how many matches he will be getting to feature in this time around.
