The 67th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season saw Royal Challengers Bangalore lock horns with the table-toppers Gujarat Titans on Thursday (May 19). It was a must-win game for the Faf du Plessis-led side and luck seemed to be favouring them early in the game as well. GT batter Matthew Wade was adjudged LBW wrongly with even ultra edge not picking up ball hitting the bat in the replays on the occasion.

The incident happened in the sixth over of the innings when Glenn Maxwell was bowling his part-time off-spinners. The second ball of the over landed outside the off-stump to which Wade tried to play a sweep shot. However, he couldn’t put bat to ball and it hit his front pad which was in line with the off-stump. The umpire quickly upheld the appeal but Wade was even quicker to signal for DRS challenging the on-field decision.

Virat Kohli also had a word with Wade

He also gestured that the ball hit his bat before thudding onto his pad. But much to everyone’s surprise, the ultra edge didn’t pick the edge and showed a flat line when the ball was close to the bat. It goes without saying that the on-field decision stayed and Matthew Wade was extremely disappointed with it. Even Virat Kohli sympathised with the batter and had a chat with Wade while he was walking back to the dressing room.

The southpaw, however, wasn’t convinced with the decision at all and let his anger come out in the dressing room. As soon as he went in, Wade threw his helmet away and also banged his bat on probably his kit bag. The Australian batter was batting well in the middle but was given out in the wrong fashion.

Here’s the video:

Matthew Wade scored 16 off 13 deliveries with two fours and a six and was looking to take the attack to the opposition with the powerplay overs in progress. However, his enterprising knock came to an early end with technology not picking the obvious deflection.
