Veteran Australian spinner Brad Hogg has lauded former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper, MS Dhoni, for his 50-run knock in the opening match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The 40-year-old was at his absolute best as he stroked 50* runs off just 38 balls which included seven fours and one six.

KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer, after winning the toss, asked CSK to bat first. The ‘Yellow Army’ batters did not have any answers for the KKR bowlers, as they lost half their side with the scoreboard reading 61/5 in 10.5 overs. However, the new skipper Ravindra Jadeja and Dhoni stitched a valuable partnership of 70 runs to get their side to a respectable total of 131 runs. With Jadeja struggling to score runs freely, it was the former skipper who turned back the clock to show his top-notch finishing skills.

Under extreme pressure, it was unbelievable: Hogg on MS Dhoni

Former Australian spinner Brad Hogg in a video uploaded on Twitter has lauded Dhoni’s innings. He wrote, “Right, what can we learn from MS Dhoni’s innings on the first night of this #IPL2022? Lessons to learn for all the youngsters watching out there.”

“Right, the Dhoni innings for CSK the other night was under extreme pressure and unbelievable. He took his time and then out at the back end, he dominated and got his run rate back up,” said Hogg during the video.

Hogg also talked about the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) young batter Ayush Badoni who also played a wonderful knock of 54 runs for his side in a game against the Gujarat Titans. The former spinner has drawn out a comparison between Dhoni and Badoni’s knocks, saying that both the innings came under pressure when their team required it the most.

Meanwhile, LSG will take on the defending champions in match seven of IPL 2022. The match will be played at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on March 31 (Thursday).
