The new entrants Gujarat Titans (GT) created history after winning the prized Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy in their very first appearance. The GT skipper Hardik Pandya showed a brilliant performance with both bat and ball as the Titans went to win the contest easily in the end.
Rajasthan Royals won the toss and opted to bat first. RR had a sedate start with opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler playing decently. However, the left-handed batter was scalped by the young pacer Yash Dayal. The left-handed batter was replaced by skipper Sanju Samson and he played a few shots before getting out on the bowling of GT skipper Hardik Pandya.
After the fall of Samson, the left-handed batter Devdutt Padikkal arrived at the crease but took ten balls to score just two runs before getting scalped by star spinner Rashid Khan. However, the big wicket of Buttler was scalped by Pandya as he got out after scoring 39 runs. The Jaipur-based franchise never recovered from the blow and kept giving away wickets.
Most of the bowlers used by Pandya took at least one wicket for their side including Mohammed Shami, Dayal, Rashid, and Sai Kishore, whereas the skipper himself turned out to be the most successful bowler.
GT chased down the target easily
In reply, the new entrants had a bad start with opener Wriddhiman Saha and Australian batter Matthew Wade getting out early. However, Shubman Gill and skipper Hardik Pandya steadied the new entrant’s ship and did most of the scoring for the Titans. However, Pandya was scalped by leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal.
South African batter David Miller stroked some vital blows with Gill playing the supporting role. RR bowlers had no answers as they lost the contest easily by seven wickets. For RR, Chahal, and Trent Boult, were the picks of the bowlers as they scalped one wicket each while maintaining a fine economy. Skipper Pandya was adjudged the Player of the Match for his excellent performance with both bat and ball.
