IPL 2022: Five people arrested from Eden Gardens for involvement in betting racket

Seven mobile phones, a portable router, and cash were seized from the arrested people during LSG vs RCB Eliminator game.

As many as five people were arrested for alleged involvement in a cricket racket operation from the Eden Gardens. The arrests were made during the Eliminator match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

According to reports, the racket was nabbed by the anti-rowdy squad (ARS) under the detective department (DD) of Kolkata Police on May 25 (Wednesday) evening. People involved in the racket are named Sunil Kumar, Ajay Kumar, Amar Kumar, Obada Khalil, and Aniket Kumar, and all are the residents of Bihar.

Acting on a tip, the officials of ARS reached the F-I block of the audience gallery of Eden Garden. With the match still in progress, three youngsters were seen using their phones instead of watching the match. The ARS sleuths then reached to them and made arrests. After their confessions, two more individuals were also arrested by ARS from a private guest house in Kolkata.

According to ARS officials, seven mobile phones, a portable router, and cash were seized from them. ARS officials said that the bookies used the portable router to ensure proper internet connection inside the stadium. The local police are interrogating them to know out their associates.

Talking about LSG vs RCB match, LSG skipper KL Rahul won the toss and opted to bowl first. RCB on the back of an excellent hundred from Rajat Patidar and some vital contributions from Virat Kohli and Dinesh Karthik crossed the 200-run mark. For LSG, pacer Mohsin Khan was the pick of the bowlers as he finished with figures of 1/25 in his four-over quota.

In reply, the duo of skipper Rahul and Deepak Hooda ensured that the new entrants remain in the contest. However, the new entrants lost the plot during the death overs and eventually lost the contest by 14 runs and got knocked out of the tournament.
