The Indian Premier League’s (IPL) 15th edition started with a bang, but the tournament this year has seen many ups and downs. The top teams have been struggling at the bottom, and the newest entrants have left everyone in awe by taking a place in the top four. There have been some splendid performances by some players, and the teams are all geared up to take the clash further.

Meanwhile, with the game passing by, there have also been multiple player replacements in the tournament. Either a player has been ruled out due to injury, or opted out of the league quoting some reasons. So far, the league has witnessed six-player replacements from eight such cases.

Jason Roy, England’s charismatic opener, had withdrawn from the IPL 2022, citing a prolonged stay in the league’s bio-bubble. Gujarat Titans, the new entrants this year, were handed a big blow when Roy opted out of the tournament, just a few weeks before the commencement, after the team purchased him for INR 2 crore in the mega auction. Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Afghanistan’s power-hitting opener, was roped in as a replacement for Roy by the Titans.

Even Alex Hales opted out of the IPL after Kolkata Knight Riders purchased him in the auction. He quoted the same reasons as Roy and decided not to participate in the league owing to the bubble fatigue. KKR decided to bring in Aaron Finch, who went unsold in the auction. The Australian white-ball skipper joined the team after concluding his national duties. KKR saw another replacement in their team as Harshit Rana walked in for Rasikh Salam after he suffered a lower back injury and was ruled out of the tournament.

Another debutant team – Lucknow Super Giants had to replace Mark Wood with Andrew Tye after the former suffered an elbow injury during the Test series between West Indies and England. The Royal Challengers Bangalore roped in Rajat Patidar after their player Luvnith Sisodia was injured and ruled out of the league.

RR and CSK did not announce a replacement for Nathan Coulter-Nile and Deepak Chahar

Rajasthan Royals’ pacer Nathan Coulter-Nile and Chennai Super Kings’ star all-rounder Deepak Chahar also missed out on the IPL this season. While the former suffered an injury after joining the franchise, the latter suffered an injury while recovering from one at the NCA in Bangalore.

Chahar was expected to be back in the second half but now has been advised to rest for the next four months with the T20 World Cup lined up later this year. The two teams did not announce any replacement for the players. CSK’s Adam Milne was ruled out due to a hamstring injury and the franchise announced Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana as his replacement.
