Finally, the much-awaited brand new season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is here. Two new teams namely Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants have been added making it to a ten-team league in IPL 2022. The 15th edition of the cash-rich league is all set to kick off from March 26, 2022, with a clash between last year’s finalists Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Interestingly, both the teams will enter the field with a new captain leading their respective sides. KKR bought Shreyas Iyer at the mega auctions and handed over the captaincy to former Delhi Capitals player. Just two days before the start of the T20 extravaganza, MS Dhoni gave a shock to all the cricketing fans around the world by stepping down from the leadership role. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja will take over the captaincy duties from four times IPL title-winning skipper Dhoni.
Talking about the playing XI combinations of both sides, England all-rounder Moeen Ali is set to miss the opener amid visa issues. New Zealand’s Devon Conway is likely to open with last season’s orange cap winner Ruturaj Gaikwad. Deepak Chahar is also out due to an injury. On the other hand, KKR got a setback a few days back with Alex Hales opting out of the tournament citing bio bubble reasons. Ajinkya Rahane will open with the last campaign’s sensation Venkatesh Iyer.
