The season opener of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 will see last year’s finalists Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders locking horns at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on March 26. Many eyes will be on this encounter as both teams have managed to retain their core but there are significant changes in the leadership department. While Shreyas Iyer is the new KKR captain, Ravindra Jadeja has replaced MS Dhoni as CSK skipper.

The two players have been exceptional in their recent assignments and expectations are pretty high from them. Notably, Shreyas is well versed with the leadership role, having led Delhi Capitals to playoffs twice. As far as Jadeja is concerned, his captaincy skills are still untested and it will be interesting to see how he fares in the new role.

As far as the team combination is concerned, both teams have some unavailability issues. While CSK will miss services of Moeen Ali and Deepak Chahar amid different reasons, KKR will take the field without Australian duo of Pat Cummins and Aaron Finch, who are likely to be available only from the third week of the competition.

However, both teams still have many potent options in ranks to build a formidable playing XI. Speaking of CSK, Devon Conway will join forces with last season’s orange cap winner Ruturaj Gaikwad at the top. The middle-order would look pretty familiar with Dhoni, Jadeja, Robin Uthappa and Ambati Rayudu in ranks. As far as the bowlers are concerned, New Zealand pacer Adam Milne is expected to be among the regular faces.

On the other hand, Ajinkya Rahane will get a chance for KKR, at least till the time Finch is available. The middle-order looks quite formidable with skipper Shreyas, Sam Billings and Nitish Rana in ranks. While Andre Russell and Sunil Narine are the key all-rounders for the side, Shivam Mavi and Tim Southee will join forces in the bowling attack.

Here’s a look at how the weather will behave during CSK vs KKR clash:

Fortunately for the cricket fans, the weather will be cricket-friendly and rain is unlikely to play a part. As per accuweather.com, the temperature in Mumbai will be about 31° Celcius during the day. It will fall down as the day progresses and would eventually reduce to 27° Celcius at night. The humidity will be around 72% at night and hence, dew is likely to play a part. This would prompt the toss-winning captain to field first.
