Shubman Gill and Lockie Ferguson destroyed Delhi Capitals (DC) through their performances as the former registered his highest IPL score of 84 runs while the Kiwi pacer Ferguson took four wickets for 28 runs to win the second match for Gujarat Titans (GT) by 14 runs in Match 10 of IPL 2022 at the MCA Stadium in Pune. Gill’s innings included six fours and four maximums as he scored those runs in 46 deliveries with a strike rate of 182.61.

Earlier, DC skipper Rishabh Pant won the toss and elected to field first. They made one change with Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizur Rahman replacing Kamlesh Nagarkoti. Gill was at his scintillating best as he tore apart the DC bowling line-up.

Wicketkeeper-batter Matthew Wade and Vijay Shankar scored just one and 13 runs respectively. Captain Hardik Pandya amassed 31 runs off 27 deliveries as David Miller remained unbeaten on 20 runs to guide GT to a total of 171 runs. Rahman was the pick of the bowlers for Pant’s side as he took three wickets for 23 runs in his four-over spell.

DC openers Prithvi Shaw and Tim Seifert managed just ten and three runs respectively. Pant, Lalit Yadav, and Rovman Powell showed some fight to chase down the target but the other GT bowlers also bowled really well to keep things tight.

Mohammed Shami took 2/30 while Hardik bowled a solid spell of 1/22 in four overs. But it was Ferguson’s spell that proved too hot to handle for the DC team as GT has now won both of their opening matches. For his exceptional and fiery spell, New Zealand seamer Lockie Ferguson was awarded the Player of the Match.
